Oban and Lorn Family History Group : the Stevensons

Oban and Lorn Family History Group meeting

Plenty is known about the impact the Stevensons had on the growth of Oban in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s but who were they? where did they come from? and where did the family go to ?

Stevenson Street in Oban is named after Hugh and John Stevenson who arrived in Oban in the mid 1700s and did much to develop and improve the then village. So much so they are arguably the founding fathers of Oban as we know it. They had a ship building business, were merchant traders and founded a brewery which subsequently became the distillery which still operates today.

We have some papers with a tentative family tree so will work together and see if we can flesh out the bones.

All welcome to come along and do some practical research.
